Dr Fathi Tarada elected Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers

Dr Fathi Tarada, managing director of Mosen Ltd, has been elected Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE). The Fellowship grade is the highest grade of membership available from the IFE, and is only awarded to senior fire safety engineers with a long track record of exemplary work.

Dr Tarada said: ‘I am delighted by my election as Fellow of the IFE. The Institution is dedicated to reducing the risks of fires and to mitigating their consequences, and I am determined to play an active part in promoting its objectives’.

MoJet® Patent Application Accepted

The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has accepted Mosen Ltd’s patent application for the MoJet®, a revolutionary device for improving energy consumption and reducing installation costs for tunnel ventilation. The IPO has therefore confirmed that the MoJet® is novel and represents an inventive step from existing technology.

The inventor of the MoJet®, Dr Fathi Tarada, said: “The granting of the MoJet® patent is great news for tunnel operators all over the world who are seeking to improve energy efficiency. Karl Else Appointed Engineering Director of Mosen Ltd

Karl Else, an expert in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and its application to the transport, mining and power sectors, has been appointed Engineering Director of Mosen Ltd.

After graduating from Brighton Polytechnic in 1989 with a degree in mechanical engineering, Karl became a consultant specialising in Computational Fluid Dynamics. Starting his professional career on the Channel Tunnel design team he developed his expertise in smoke control, industrial ventilation and condenser optimisation. During this time he worked with a wide range of clients in North and South America, Europe and Asia on site and as part of local design teams on the Delhi, Ankara and Copenhagen Metro systems and the Attiko Metro in Athens.

Following a period in New York working on smoke control in the Hoboken, 33^rd Street and World Trade Center stations for the Port Authority of NY & NJ, Karl returned to work in the UK on the Heathrow Terminal 5 station and the Thameslink and Crossrail stations at Farringdon .

After working on the Holmesdale, Bell Common and Hatfield Tunnels as part of the M25 Sphere project he formed an advanced simulation team with the mission to promote CFD and other simulation technologies into areas where they had previously not been considered viable.

Dr Tarada Appointed Secretary of PIARC Tunnel Operations Committee

Dr Fathi Tarada, managing director of Mosen Ltd, has been appointed Secretary of the World Road Association (PIARC) Technical Committee on Road Tunnel Operations for the four-year cycle 2012-15. As Secretary to the Committee, Dr Tarada will be responsible, along with the committee members, for the development of international standards relating to tunnel and underground safety, user comfort and operational efficiency.

Dr Tarada said: “It is an honour to be appointed to such a prestigious international position. Through the eight years I have spent on the committee to date, I have been involved in significant developments in the field of tunnel operations. I hope to be able to contribute towards the creation and dissemination of international best-practices in my new role”.
