The founder and managing director of Mosen Ltd is Dr Fathi Tarada. Fathi is a leading expert in fire safety engineering, tunnel ventilation and Computational Fluid Dynamics, with design, review and operations experience in buildings and infrastructure worldwide. He is the inventor of the MoJet tunnel ventilation system, and has submitted a dozen patent applications in the field of mechanical engineering. He was the project director for the mechanical and electrical design in the New Tyne Crossing, and undertook a quantitative fire risk assessment for that tunnel which led to a specification for the first fire suppression system within a road tunnel in the UK.
Apart from mechanical and electrical design, Fathi has also provided advice on structural fire protection for a number of tunnels within the UK and internationally, including the Conwy Tunnel in North Wales. He is currently the lead reviewer for the tunnel ventilation and fire safety design of all 29 stations within the North-South Line Extension and Downtown Lines 2 and 3 of Singapore Metro. Fathi was an expert witness for the Buncefield incident, the largest peace-time fire and explosion that occurred in Europe. He has extensive management skills in engineering projects, with an emphasis on delivery to time, quality and budget.
Fathi is the Secretary of the World Road Association (PIARC) Technical Committee on Tunnel Operations, the chairman of BHR’s International Symposium on Aerodynamics and Ventilation of Tunnels, and the chairman of the Fire Protection and Safety in Tunnels Conference.

Karl Else
BEng Mechanical Engineering (First class honours)
Karl is the engineering director of Mosen Ltd. After graduating from Brighton Polytechnic in 1989 with a degree in mechanical engineering, Karl became a consultant specialising in Computational Fluid Dynamics. Starting his professional career in the Channel Tunnel design team, he developed his skills in the transport, mining and power sectors developing particular expertise in smoke control, industrial ventilation and condenser optimisation. During this time he worked with a wide range of clients in North and South America, Europe and Asia on site and as part of local design teams on the Delhi, Ankara and Copenhagen Metro systems and the Attiko Metro in Athens.
Following a period in New York working on smoke control in the Hoboken, 33rd Street and World Trade Center stations for the Port Authority of NY & NJ, Karl returned to work in the UK on the Heathrow Terminal 5 station and the Thameslink and Crossrail stations at Farringdon.
After working on the Holmesdale, Bell Common and Hatfield Tunnels as part of the M25 Sphere project he formed an advanced simulation team with the mission to promote CFD and other simulation technologies into areas where they had previously not been considered viable.
A passionate believer in the use of simulation throughout the design process from concept to completion Karl is keen to promote to engineers, developers and end users about the necessity of using advanced tools in increasingly challenging design environments.
